Session Description:

This practical and experiential session will show how participants can use the voice in service of the challenging conversations we face both professionally and personally.

Learning Objectives:

  1. How does the voice work and why does it often fail us just when we need it most.
  2. How alignment can affect the voice, our confidence and how others perceive us.
  3. Learn breath techniques that not only power the voice but help control the performance anxiety triggered by challenging dynamics. 
  4. How to create space in the mouth to project, clarify and amplify the message
  5. Learn speaking tips that will help draw the audience into your message.

About Rena Cook:

Rena Cook is a TEDx speaker, author, coach and a Professor Emerita. She is an in-demand speaker specializing in entertaining, interactive and informative presentations on the theme of Empowering the Voice and Enhancing Confidence. She is founder of Vocal Authority, a training consultancy for business professionals who want to speak and present in more compelling and authentic ways. She is the author of four books on voice, including Voice and the Young ActorEmpower your Voice: For Women in Business, Politics and Life; and Her Voice in Law. She has an MA in Voice from London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama; an MFA in Directing; and an MA in Guidance and Counselling. Coming from the theatre world and involved in actor training for thirty years, she provides a practical and tangible process for making lasting changes in communication style to tame performance anxiety, increase vocal power, build presence, gravitas and authentic authority. Her guilty pleasure is voicing video games and animation.
